The River Blackwater flows out of Lough Ramor, Co Cavan, at Nine Eyed Bridge and meets the Boyne at Navan in Co Meath. The best trout fishing is between Nine Eyed Bridge and Mabes Bridge. The best access is at the 3 bridges (third is Daly's Bridge), and near Carnaross.
The river fishes well from the start of the season (March 1st.) to the end (September 30th.). The hatches run similar to as described on our fly-fishing page, but there is no Bloodworm. The Buzzer, in season can work magic in deep pools on the river.
Fishing is controlled by Kells Angling Club, and Captains Bay can organize permits, subject to availability, if organised ain advance. Angling is catch and release.
